Kitchen cabinets are one of the most functional parts of the kitchen. You can put anything in it; from cereals, cooking equipments, plates, sets of fork and spoon, jars, etc. They can also be an essential component in the kitchen because they are a good investment. You must carefully plan every detail before making improvements.

There are three classifications of kitchen cabinets. Foremost is the carpenter-built kitchen cabinet. This type is usually made out of medium hardwood (birch or ash) and the design is made by the homebuilder or general contractor. The second type is the stock manufactured cabinets. This kind is pre-assembled and has a uniform look. The last but not the least type is the custom manufactured cabinets. This kitchen cabinet is constructed according to the owner's design and style provisions. It includes a wide range of laminates, veneers, and hardwoods.

After you have chosen the kitchen cabinet's category, you must now pick the kitchen's five fundamental "shapes". These shapes will coordinate to your cabinet's style and functionality. The first shape is the U-shape (your cabinets and appliances are arranged along you kitchen's three walls). The second figure is the L-shape (your cabinets and appliances are set on your kitchen's two walls). The next shape is the Corridor (your cabinets and appliances lay opposite to your kitchen's two walls). The fourth shape is the Open Plan (this outline comprises the kitchen, the family room, and the dining area). The last shape is the One Wall (your cabinets and appliances lay beside your kitchen's single wall). At present, the typical kitchen cabinet woods used are the Ebony, Birch, Maple, Oak, Pine, Alder, and the Cherry.

Some of the leading kitchen cabinet manufacturers include the Mill's Pride, Aristokraft Cabinetry, American Woodmark, KraftMaid Cabinetry, Holiday Kitchens, Crown Point, Studio Becker, Crystal Cabinet Works, and the Kennebec Company.
